Fiber-based bottle shrink-wrap is now available from DS Smith and Krones
The Krones mechanisation system can be used to apply ECO Carrier to the company’s LitePac Top line of corrugated board clips for holding PET bottles together, which are appropriate for bottle sizes ranging from 1 litre (L) to 1.5 L (M).
Based on their analysis, DS Smith estimates that their method can reduce carbon footprint by 71% compared to plastic shrink-wrap.
“Our customers and consumers are expecting more sustainable solutions to replace problem plastic while integrating smoothly with their production lines,” said Marc Chiron, DS Smith’s head of sales, marketing, and innovation for packaging.
By collaborating with Krones, we are able to offer totally recyclable fiber-based alternatives to our clients in a simple-to-implement solution, thereby lowering their reliance on single-use plastics and easing their transition to a circular economy.
Krones’ head of order centre and assembly for packaging technology, Wolfgang Huber, adding, “Our collaboration with DS Smith underscores our shared sustainability aspirations, which seek to create goods that correspond with consumers’ increasing desire for climate- and environment-friendly lives.”
By utilising tried and true Krones packing technology, “as a turnkey provider with customers in every corner of the world, we have the expertise, the technologies, and the reach to contribute considerably to the difficult sustainability concerns of today and future.”
